Galerie Léage will take part in Frieze Masters for the third time, from 14th to 18th October 2026, a major event in London’s artistic calendar. 18th-century furniture and works of art will be presented there within a contemporary scenography by the Atelier d’Offard.
In the 18 century, the decorative arts were a field of boldness and innovation, served by exceptional craftsmanship. Craftsmen, dealers and collectors constantly sought perfection of line, richness of materials and originality of design.
Commodes, fall-front secretaries, jardinières, frame chairs and mounted porcelain were so many novelties born of the century’s refined spirit. Furniture with mechanisms or transformations also multiplied, arousing the admiration of connoisseurs fond of curiosities. Fashions and tastes guided collectors and makers alike, all of whom sought to be at the forefront of modernity. As the title of the 2014 exhibition at the Château de Versailles so aptly put it, the 18th century thus stands “at the sources of design”.
